Well I have just removed the rear shocks on my cab and run into a little problem. I was checking the top mounts (I have new ones to put on).
After I found how to access the mounting points, in the convertible they are under the roof box, unfortunately I'd already removed the rear seats and boot trim!!

Anyway, I bought the top mounts from the Dealer, went to put it on and it doesn't fit, there is an insert in the new mounts that wasn't in the old ones, this is what stops it fitting. Unfortunately I can't remove the inserts.

Here are Pics, anyone know what part I really need?

Daz,

It looks like the metal tube that's normally inside the rear shock mounts has parted company with the rubber, and got stuck on the damper shaft.

You NEED to get this off. It looks like it's connected to the big washer that the plastic dirt tube is sitting on, but it's not. It's just a simple tube. It's probably rusted to the washer, but should break free with a bit of work :hammer:

One other thing. If you look at the last picture that shows the top of the shock mount in the car. The cupped washer is on the wrong way around. The cup should be upwards, not downwards like in the photo.

Cheers,

Ian.

Cheers Ian, I'll have a go again tomorrow.
I realised the washer was on the wrong way round when I looked at the photo as I was posting it, but thought what the heck, I probably wont drive it until it is fixed, not sure I'm keen on having th eshock moving that much!

yeah, i agree with the above. the sleeve has rusted onto the top of the shock. putting it on a bloch and tapping the side of the sleeve with a percussion adjuster (hammer) should loosen it, failing that, file / angle grind it down it's length!

Thanks guys, I clamped the tube in a workmate, held the shock and "tapped" it with a club hammer, that did the trick!

And the squeeking/grinding definately came from the mount. :D
