Hi all
Having built a prototype set that im very happy with, Im trying to cost producing my Angel Eye headlights product for the E30 and E36 as the general view I have found is that alot of E30 owners in particular rushed to get the Angel Eye headlights when they first came out and virtually all who did feel that they are not up to scratch and could be alot better - most i speak to either didnt buy them at all, bought and sold them on, or retain them but not that happily.
Instead of trying to emulate the E39 originals, I have taken a different approach and ours dont look the same as the originals at all, but are actually much brighter and sharper (they are bright white not yellow), can be seen in full daylight and though different from the E39 ones, their very original look is their strength when compared to a poor copy i feel! We also have a very cool 'fade-in' and 'fade-out' facility which we are integrating where the lights fade on and off over about 3 seconds! This looks very smart indeed let me tell you!
In researching this though im trying to find a supplier who will sell me new lights without the glass fixed on, i.e un-sealed, so we can assemble them withouth first having to pull them apart. However, my first shock is the price - even using the basic smileys the cheapest i can find is Ԛ£90 per side or Ԛ£180 for both sides! I suppose its clear then why the producers of the 'Ebay-special' Angel Eye's and those most common versions dont have a good product because selling them at Ԛ£220-Ԛ£250 when your basic lights cost Ԛ£180 minus trade/bulk discount means that not alot can be spent on the Halo's themselves!
Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier who might be able to provide units at a better price than i have found? I suppose the only way I will get them unsealed (which is key as I was considering doing them exchange but most that come back will be so old with adjusters broken and siezed up that its just not worth doing this) is to approach Bosch or another manufacturer direct? I think there is only Bosh and one other firm that make the actual lights?
Any input would be gratefully accepted!

You probably have tried these chaps already, but they are a good alternative to Euro-car parts... try Motormec in Lowerstoft, 01502 500590.
If you simply ask about a good 'budget' value headlamp unit, then they'll probably know of who and where. If you mention doing diy halo conversions yourself - then as with all aftermarket stockists, they'll fear competition as they promote 'modified' lights too.
Best of luck,
