Right planning a 2.7 :D , and when I saw THIS on Ebay thought at that price I'd be silly not to

So I need con rods to go with it. I'm thinking 320 rods which are apparently 133mm long. I have a spare 325i engine so I'm going to use the block and head from that. Any one know if this is possible? Presumibly the block will need to be shaved, but by how much to get the compression right?

Cheers guy, it was a dream, no I have to fcuking find out how to do it!

Use early High compression 325i pistons + 320 rods + eta crank.

Measurements will need to be done and some machining to the block/head and pistons.

Get some head work done and get a cam in there.

Rest of its all nuts bolts, bearings, shells and gaskets.

You will hit Ԛ£1500 easily.

Then youll need a custom remap to get the best from it.

Ok thanks for the info on the rods etc.

But I'm going budget not trying to make a race car, if I get a cam cheap I will use it but I'm not paying Ԛ£375 for one! otherwise I'm just going to stick to stock components and use a zone 2.7 chip with higher fuel pressure.

If I was to go to all the trouble/ expense of a ca, headwork and a remap etc then I might as well have the block bored at the same time and build a 3.0ltr.

I'm not kidding myself in the BHP department, I just wan't a bit more poke from the crank I have bought cheap, and using stock components.
I have a spaeer 2.5 engine already so it seemed the obvious place to start. Just want to bolt it all togeathe and get 180-195bhp ish

for the price of Ԛ£1500 youd be able to pic up a 3.0 m3 lump surely?

180bhp at a push then for what you're planning to do, just think if Karan's 2.7 has had Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£ thrown at it and is making 215bhp then sub Ԛ£1k to make any higher than 180 is optimistic.

if thats the case, are you talking '180bhp at the wheels'?! if not, then possibly the best idea for an extra 9bhp would be BBTB and a 'zone wild chip....?!

TBH I thought what Widge is suggesting would prob give a bit more than 180bhp....

just asking  :)

hell, you know mate-you've got a 2.7 :D

OK perhaps I was being a bit harsh and 185-190 is achievable, but like you say BBTB and chip = Ԛ£215 straight up

Btw I forgot to mention I bought my cam brand new from Germany, was only Ԛ£240!

Yeah I agree with you guys. For Ԛ£1500 why not just change engine?

I'm not kidding myself on the Bhp figure, but the thing is as long as it is better than the 325 then I don't really care as it is a project. And as for the BBTB and chip, I've got a chip, I'll get one of ants 2.7 chips, and I'll probably do the BBTB too.

It's just a case of balancing what has to be done with what can be done as well, and at the end of the day = Cost.

sounds like a plan the 2.7 chip and a BBTB :thumb:

should be able to do that within Ԛ£1500 for sure

This 2.7 budget plan is a good idea but you have to realise that throwing in a 2.7 zone chip and upping the fuel pressure will not make the car run anywhere near to\its optimum.

When My Alpina was incorrectlyt setup it was no faster than a 325i. When it was setup properly it made an extra 25 hp!

OK so are you saying that it can be set up to run well (ish on a buget here :) ) without expensive piggyback ecus and maf conversions?

Obviously I would have had it professionally tuned, but surely the 325 fuel injection is up to the job afterall it's only 200cc extra, 33cc per cylinder is not alot.

As I said befor I'm not making a race car so if it does not produce it's optimum I'm not bothered, I just want some gains over the 2.5. And I'm not expecting huge amounts for the money I'm spending.

So can anyone answer my original question? How much will I need to deck the block to get reasonable compression with this set up?

Cheers for the input guys

All u need a custom remap done. No expensive ECU's etc.

So that's just the moronic ecu and a bloke with a lap top making me a custom chip rather than one of Ant's??
How much folding are we talking?
