Can anyone give advice on how to remove the strip of plastic in the top pic without breaking the clips off inside it?

Thanks

the only thing you can do is just pull it slowly from one end.

Its easy, put some masking tape on the paintwork first at one end then gently priseit up from one end.The white clips stay in place on the sill.
If you want to take them off you push the centre of them which pushes a little plastic rod inside the sill. If you take the plastic sill protector off the holes are big enough to retrieve them with a coathanger (straightened out)
and a blob of evostick on the end. It works for me....and the evostick.
Good Luck
