Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can help. My MPG gauge on my F plate 316 doesn't work correctly- when the car starts it sweeps round to the 0 position, and stays there.
I dont think its the SI batterys- the rev counter and service lights all work as they should.
where does the mpg gauge get its data from? is it a vacum gauge or a throttle position sensor?
I only ask as a previous owner has "modified" the filter and replaced it with a K&N, and I keep finding wires/conectors/rubber pipes which i'm sure at some point went somwhere...
Any help gratefully received, i have only had the car a month, and i'm allready a convert!

Is the car a 316 with the 1.8 carb (M10 engine) fitted?
It is meaningless to ask; which is real, 'real' or imaginary? It is simply a matter of which is the more useful description

If it has the weber conversion on it (most do) the mpg gauge won't work I am afraid!
Small price to pay though as the weber upgrade is much better than the standard carb

not sure what carb it has- i'm not too fussed about the gauge realy, just a bit troubled by all the hoses/conectors that appear to go nowhere

If it does have the Weber conversion, then there WILL be plenty of disconnected hoses and wires. The Weber is a much simpler animal than the original.
