8O I not sure how this happened  but my car seams to have lost all drive.

Ok so there was a bit of smoke and a loverly smell and now the car won't go above 10-15mph clutch just slips.

Also is was not even starting the starter motor was just spinning.

It it dead for good? or will it come back to life?

cylinders are both new if that makes any difference.

Managed to get the car home alright - took frigging ages in central london..

Get unbolting the gearbox - something very nasty's happened in the bell housing.
Unbolt the slave cylinder first, just in case it's some kind of weird hydraulic lock up.

Yea fluid is all ok - all the hydraulics including hoses are new.

I don't have any axle stands in London or anywhere to do it. So i think it is going to have to go to a garage..

unless anyone on here can help me out?

What kind of price do people think I should be looking at?

I couldn't have destroyed the flywheel or anything else could I?

Thanks

Poo just asked at my local garage - they want £300 just to fit (not including parts)..

hmm do I really want to take a gearbox out again on the street?..

Yea I going to have to ask around a bit more - just if I have to take it far away it is going to have to be towed!

I don't even have a hydraulic jack or stands..

Significantly less than £300.

Crikey, probably cheaper to haul it back home!

Surely there must be a zoner in London with some stands you could borrow in return for a cuppa tea or two?

Get on the zonehailer :D

Yea Chris I had thought about getting it trailered to my parents (or my garage as I like to call it!)

Wonder how long it would take to drive it at 10-15mph?!

Yes Neil - does anyone have a hydraulic jack and stands I can borrow?

I have taken a gearbox out on the drive before and didn't really enjoy it - but it is better than £300..

Strange - sounds like 2 issues to me. This is just a wild guess but the starting issue sounds like a tooth has been chewed off the flywheel so starter isn't engaging.
Does the clutch slip the same in second & third gear as well as first - I'm thinking possibly just the clutch fork might be bent? It would still mean gearbox out so both issues could be sorted.
Alternatively you say all the hydraulics & hoses are new - don't want to insult you but have you got all the air out?

I have some stands you could borrow in SE London. I also work in a parts shop if you'd like parts at cost.

(Note: a new clutch kit fitted inc. release bearing is about £200 - £225 at an honest garage but that may not be your problem!)

Yes the spinning of the starter motor does worry me a bit - It only did that once though.

Clutch slips in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and reverse!

the Hydraulics have done about 2000 miles since I sorted them - but I do need to check what Brian said ^^

Basically if the gearbox is coming off I might as well put a new clutch in it. Might be worth me getting hold of a spare flywheel just in case.

I used to live in Lingfield - so I know where Grinny is! - bit far at the moment for me.

Did you move because my Mother-In-Law moved there 2 years ago - lol!!

I thought you were in London though. I live in Grinny but work in SE London near Catford/Lewisham. Give us a shout if you need any bits though (yes, get a spare flywheel in case & if it is needed then remember to get it resurfaced at an engineering co. - doesn't cost much to do).

No I moved from Surrey about 8 years ago when I went to Uni - have only been back about 3 times! (My parents moved to North Wales)

ECP do a Sachs clutch fro about £70 - and ECP Wembley is cycling distance for me. Thanks for the offer though!

Well I now have a quote for £180 all in (Sachs clutch) which sounds OK to me.

Just got to work out how to get my car 5 miles up the road.. 10mph it will take a while!

Yah! new sachs clutch fitted 2 year gauranttee! £180! Fecking good value for central London IMO

It was this place;

http://www.clutchdirect.co.uk/

@ Staples Corner (Brent Cross) - tooting branch has closed down.

They showed me the old one - sadly it was a bit late to get a picture, lets just say the clutch plate looked like tin foil!
