Probably been answered a million times before but anybody know the deal for chipping early 325's. More to lift the limiter as I've been told it cuts in before the top of the power.

early 073 M1.1 chips easily, limiter is there for a good reason on these, the TDC pin on the flywheel tends to depart at over 6.5K rpms.

Gains to be had but dont chase rpms, the stock M20 has given its best by 6200 rpm dude.

Not losing the TDC pin seems like a good reason for the limiter. I assume you need the Ecu number to supply chips.

Working on it - how do you preview it without posting / best pix size?

Seems to have disappeared completely, except in one post. Strange!

Sorry to barge in here but about the original question:-

I also have a pre-facelift 325 and have also been wondering about chips. Would it be wiser to chip it as it is OR (as I think I read somewhere on here) would it be better to convert it to the facelift ECU and chip that? If so how difficult would that be? It's primarily a track car if that makes any odds.

you can chip what you have or swop to the later Motronic setup, having no TDC sensor to come adrift from the flywheel might be a good idea.

Both offer great scope for tweaks as both are fully 3d mappable fuel and spark.

swopping in the later setup is Loom-ECU trigger wheel for front of engine, crank sensor pickup and swoppping a couple of wires on the C101 connector, you can get all you require from any 6 cyl plastic bumper car ( sept 87 onwards.. )

Cheers Ant, if there's no big advantage to using the later setup then I might do myself a favour and not make extra work for now, especially since I've only just got the thing fixed up and MOT'd.
I understand you're the guy to talk to regarding getting the right chip - I'll be in touch when the time is right :D

wasn't cheap iirc was 275quid!!! yes it did affect fuel economy but i wasn't bothered about that, gave it a few bhp and the throttle response was much improved.

someone on here had the ecu off me but it was ages ago, i'll try dig some info up if i can remember the name of the company

daveyboy20, you cannot chip the LE Jetronic system you have dude, there's o provision for that to be done, replace with the later motronic or add a standalone ECU to suit
