can you be 100% positive the pipes are on the right way round?
Wiring to the pump correct?
DME relay?

Take off the feed in engine bay, crank the engine, check fuel comes out -don't trust the mechanic.

The fuel pipe that comes from the fuel filter should connect directly to the fuel rail, not the fuel pressure regulator. This is also the pipe that fuel should come out of if you disconnect it and crank the engine.
Any mechanic worthy of the title would have already done exactly this.
Also, pull out the fuel pump relay, link together pins 30 and 87 of its base with a short piece of wire and listen to hear the whine of the fuel pump. Should be a steady flow of fuel from the pipe disconnected from the rail when you do this.

Another guess is he's done exactly what I did the other day with mine
I crushed the main feed pipe that goes across the top of the tank, theres a gutter it should run through and I managed to let it slip out whilst putting the tank up (tape works a treat with hindsight!!)
Easy way for him to check is drop the tank just by undoing the 3 bolts on the pax side and try running it again
If it is that, you can get in there by undoing all 5 fixings without dropping the tank completely

Did you fit a new fuel filter? With disturbing the old one it may have stirred up crud trapped in it...
