Hi all,

I always get a really strong smell of petrol whenever I drive my car, I've checked all the usual places for leaks and I can definetly say it's not leaking from anywhere?

Cheers

Traced mine!! Lie under the rear axle area and look up towards the rea of the car,you will see the petrol filler pipe wandering it's way to the tank.At the point where the pipe joins the tank, there is a length of rubber hose.Give this a good wiggle, when I did it came away in my hand...complete with the stub of pipe from the petrol tank....

Check the two fuel pipes where they connect to the fuel rail with the engine running (no smoking!). A pin-prick of a hole there is common.

if your E30 is particually old all the fuel hoses are nearly 20 years old now, they probably could do with replacing even if they arn't the direct cause of the smell.

Thanks for all the replies guys, btw it's a 325i!

I was certain it wasn't a fuel leak problem, but now I'm not sure, I thought it was overfuelling or something?

Out of curiousity, how much would it cost to replace all fuel hoses on a 325i?

I have a leak on my current car (but only leaks when cold??), and when i get my new car i want to make sure that i don't have any fuel leak issues!

Any 8mm fuel hose will do, so long as its strong enough for fuel injection (more than likely will be these days). Halfords sell it by the meter. The metal fuel lines that run under the car are not too expansive either - you get them from the stealers.
