Over the last day or two my 318iS has being taken a good few seconds to start.
Just keeps turning over but it doesnt seem to fire.
It seems ok first thing in the morning and worst when parked for my 20 mins or so.

I hadn't too much time to investigate yet. just pulled out the plugs today to see if they were covered in oil or something as it seems to have used abit of oil over the last month or two.

Hope the rings aren't on the way out

It doesn't seem to be lacking in power all of a sudden either which.

Could it be a fuel pump is starting to give up.... even though theres receipts for 2 or 4 of these in the last 10 years with the car

New apparently...

Suppose 6 months maybe
I only have the car two months.

I was kinda ruling out the battery since its fine in the mornings, its only slow to start again when stopped for 20 mins or so as I said
If it was the battery I would have thought it would have the biggest effect after being off all night.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome anyway.

I'll get the multimetre to the battery tomoro in any case

Batteries actually charge themselves up slowly (unless they are completely dead), so leaving the car overnight means there will be more charge in the morning... Starting the car puts the biggest drain on the battery, and running it for a short time wont be enough to fully recharge the battery, so it wont be as powerful to start your car...

Just a thought - it could be something completely different!

Well there seems to be plenty of power in the battery, its turning as fast as it should, just not firing.

I'm sure Brian will be on at some stage with a trouble shooting guide winkeye

It could be a temperature sensor issue.

My old golf used to behave similarly, I figured it was that it wasn't cold enough for the choke to come on and wasn't warm enough for it to start on the running amount of fuel.

Just a thought.

Good thinking batman winkeye

First thing is to check the fuel pump and relays I think.

I was thinking maybe there might be a funny conection on the fuse board and when its hot its not picking it up... I dont know I might be just thinking stupid now since its late :)

That makes sense to me anyway. temp sensors are another cheap and easy thing to check too

Would a compression test be a good idea?
