325 struts on 320

Fitted Spax 40mm shock/springs kit to my 320i (1989) - bought 51mm shocks by mistake, so had to buy 46mm to fit my struts. 51's are surplus, but would I benefit from bigger diameter struts, are they different to 320 struts apart from strut diameter? If advice is go for the thicker struts, I can obviously bolt my 51mm Spax straight on!

I fitted 325i legs on my 318i so that I could have the vented brakes and to use the bigger 325i shocks, then I found that the E30 M3 shocks fit directly into the 51mm legs Never looked back since :D:D
