will a compact 316i diff fit a 325i

hi i have a mate with this diff and says i can have it
but what i need to know is how to fit it and will it hold a 325's power
the diffs is smaller then the 325's medium case diff but i have been told many times it will fit if i change the output flanges??

does anyone know anything about doing this?
