i've been asked to sort out a motor for my cousin that's been sat for 2 years 2 months - previous owner made no preparations for laying the car up. i've got it running and can sort everything that needs doing but i'm stuck for the tyres - do you reckon a 2 year lay up is alright? or do you think they should be replaced?

i know if in doubt we should replace them but although they look pretty dried out they still seem to have some flex in them.... and he's got no money to put towards this at all so it's budget time at garage lacey.

anyone know about tyre life please?

the tyres develope flat spots if left on a car that is sat for a long period of time. As air naturaly escapes out of all tyres anyway, so my feeling would be they are no good, just my opinion!

My car still has 2 tyres on that were on the car while it was sat for 2 years 1 month, and they've been fine over the last 15k miles :D

2 years and i'd say they were fried! Budget or not, i wouldnt drive them. I know i can be picky sometimes, but my life doesnt have a value, so if tyres cost Ԛ£50 or Ԛ£250 a set, id replace them, as Ԛ£250 is fuk all compared to 3 months in hospital if one blew and they stacked it into a lamp post at 60mph! (thats if they survive AT ALL!!!)

Replace em mate, i wouldnt even think twice about it!

thats what i'd say-tell your mate to get some barum's-made by conti and not a bad budget tyre.

they are the only contact you have with the road, and tell you what the car is doing.get them replaced

Ԛ£150 should see 4 fitted an balanced

depends on what size rims his mate is running though doesnt it!? if they are 15", then yea, Ԛ£150 should see him orite, however, if they are 17s, then that may only get him 3 tyres.
