The tickover on my touring has gone crazy. Sometimes it struggles to keep the engine running, drifting between +/- 400rpm and stalling, other times it's as high as 1200rpm. On one occassion the engine was revving up and down as if i was gunning the throttle, but my foot was off it. After cutting out it USUALLY starts ok but it has embarressed me at the lights once or twice. Is this a sure sign the ICV is on the way out?

Sounds like it could well be the ICV.
Have you had a look over the inlet pipe (airflow meter to throttle body) to check for splits? On the underside aswell?

Sorry to hear that....
Are all the breather pipes clear?
I've got a spare ICV....
Is it L or T shaped?
