The engine in my e30is baur is almost dead, have been told i can fit an e36is engine by swapping a few bits about, sump, manifolds, mounts ect. Is it that easy or would i have to change the ecu, wiring ect ? cheers JB.

E30 318is baur extremely rare car!

The early E36 is will fit straight in as it's the same engine (M42) the later car with M44 is much more trouble.

Not without several bits swapped over, it won't!

As bubba mentioned in his first post, he knows he'll need to swap the manifolds, sump, and mounts.

I can't shed any light on it other than that as far as i know, it's a fairly simple swap since you already have an e30 M42 to donate the parts that need changing. And i only know that because i saw Brianmoooore write it not long ago :P and remembered it because my M42 engine has done 204,000 miles now and i'm thinking i would be prudent to keep an eye out for a low mileage engine from an e36 scrapper ;)
