Hello guys,

Was wondering if any one has had problems with tyre wear on the front wheels after a suspension drop.

I've got a 320i which went for MOT in April, just before I bought 4 new tyres and the front near side tyre has worn down to the bar already!

I did buy cheap tyres but come on the last set lasted longer.

I did replace the steering rack a while ago, and went to good old Kwik fit and asked if they would do an aligment check but refused because it was lowered.

He suggested a geo check, now I phoned a few places but not many do it. (only a main dealer)
Does anyone know of a plce near Gatwick that could do it.

Any help or info would be great thanks :D

They refused because it was lowered?

How lowered is it?

Did you try all the tyre fitters?

If they're only wearing on one edge, it's the wheels need to be tracked and alligned and such, not that they're cheap tyres.

We take all our vans to get tracking done at Austec in Gatwick Rd, they have a dyno there and do a lot of high performance cars so i'm sure they could help you out. I'm not sure of the centre's name that its in, its just past the old Suzuki building on the way to the Big red radar on the right. Does that make sense? Doesnt if I read it back !! LOL

Not all that close to Gatwick, but I use Discount Tyres in Worthing. Don't let the name fool you. They have a very good Hunter 4 wheel alignment rig, and really know how to use it.

Ian.

We used discount tyres before we found this place, they do a good job. Our worthing depot uses them. Got my tyres from them, quite cheap.

Yeah its on Manor Royal, can find out for you if you wish?

Hello Mitch, i have spoken to Austec said it was a tracking issue, so tried another tyre fitter Guilford tyres, but there kit can't fit on my car. :cheese:
Austec said would cost about £190 or something like that, but if it takes longer than two hours then there hourly rate will be put on top of that. :clin:
Gonna have to wait till next month as they asked for new tyres to be fitted before they undertake the work.

It was nice to see another E30 though as i pulled into the car park, and the guy seemed very helpful as he came down and looked at the motor first.

Ian would you know how much Discount Tyres in Worthing would charge?

Not off the top of my head. I seem to remember it was around £50 or £60 to do a 4 wheel alignment check and adjust the front toe. If you have a fully adjustable setup (front and rear), I believe it can go to nearer to £200.

Give them a ring and see what they charge. I believe they quote for the 4 wheel measurement, and then an extra charge for each a adjustment that is needed.

You can get them on 08000 370636.

Cheers,

Ian.

P.S. I'll be taking mine in for a full alignment (front & rear) next week, so may know more then.

I've had both mine done by a local tyre fitters with laser 2 wheel alignment, £15 each !! No problems with either of them.

I had the same proplem, Kwik fit wouldnt do it because it was lowerd, ended up getting to done at a lotus garage which cost me alot but they set up track cars so they know what works and what dont and they gave me lots of advice on how to get it to handle better.
