I got some dcoe weber 40 carbs about 2 weeks ago with inlet manifold and linkage (god bless eBay)
Trouble is I now dont really have much of a clue what to do with them or if I need anything wlse to fit them such as uprated fuel pump.
I've seen some manuals on amazon and ebay but I dont think they'll tell me much apart from about setting up the carbs.
Would the ignition system need ot be upgraded?
Would the fuel pump need upgrading?
Would it run ok if I fitted the weber carbs and left the rest of the engine stock or would that either not run or kill it?
The car is an 87 316 1.8 m10
I've been looking for ages but cant find any comprehensive info on carb conversions giving definate nswers to what else is needed other than carbs and fannymolds

if your car is injection then you probably need to downgrade the fuel pump as the pressure will be running too high for carbs, but in reality, i know feck all mate

out of interest how much did the webbers cost?

I think all in for carbs, linkage and fannymolds including delivery it worked out about £312.50
The cars carb at the minute so I might get away with standard fuel pump. hmmm

The chances of the carbs having the correct main-jets, emulsion-tubes and air-correctors for your engine are not great. Have a look at this info on initially setting-up your carbs to get engine running,

Check your carbs to see what's fitted to them and be prepared to change the jets, etc, final set-up should be done on a rolling-road. As for the pump, if your engine is already on a carb the existing pump may be OK. I have a Fiat 2litre Twincam with twin 40 Dellortos in my kit-car and it ran fine with a good old SU pump but I eventually fitted a Facet Solid State Competition pump (about £50 odd including fitting kit) because it is much more reliable. Remember to fit a fuel-filter between fuel-tank and pump, jets don't like dirty fuel. Ignition should be OK if it is already separate from the fueling.
