Dear All,

In need of your expertise once again please:

When the car is cold, it wants to always stall, it starts straight away from cold, the idle isnt too bad either, it doesnt kangaroo too much, hops around to the extent that it almost wants to stall!

But when its hot its perfectly fine.

If say im coming up to a traffic light and the cars cold, i put the clutch down n begin braking and what not, it will just stall on me, once its hot no problem at all

Now ive blasted the ICV with carb cleaner, cleaned the throttle too, checked for leaks as best i know how, around the throtle rubber boot, inclet manifold, but no sign of leaks

I do have a KnN 57i Induction kit, but i doubt it could be causing the issue? Also new Blue n Brown temp sensors

Any ideas?

Try it without the air filter on, if it cures it the give the filter a good clean.
Whats the condition, colour of the spark plugs?

Thanks for the suggestion, will actually try that now.

Sparks, well i havent looked at them, the only reason being is that it isnt sluggish, nor is it slow when hot, so again maybe a bad assumption on my behalf, but i dont think the sparks are to blame, are they?

Now air vacuum: i checked that by spraying some carb cleaner around the roacker cover, no bubbling, also around the vacuum pipe that feeds the rocker cover, also seems fine.

Am i doing something wrong, is my method faultered?

Gasket leak, dont say head gasket, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do i check a gasket leak

Thanks all for your help.....keep it coming

If your looking for bubbles you won't find any because if its leaking its drawing air in, if you spray carb cleaner you have to listen for a change in engine speed as it gets drawn in and burned.

Take the spark plugs out and check the condition of them, if there wet/oily its running rich.
If there white its running hot/lean (doubt that though)

my car is doing the exact same thing mine a 316i M40.i,iv'e changed most of the engine sensors and tested them and cleand the throttle body and changed the plugs and fuel filter,no vacum leaks.it runs very rich from cold then it's ok after it's warmed up. think it might be a blow from the exhaust manifold the 1 stud has broken off Is the ecu telling the fuel system to fuel more because of the exhaust blowing causing a lean mixture?

Martin,

thanks for correcting me, i will go out and do this asap and report back, thanks once again.

Well my exhasut is leaking i think, but my new scorpion is on its way. However i doubt very much its leaking from the manifold, more so from the centre silencer....btw its a M20B25 Sport

I also noticed....that on a hot day its fine, it wont try to stall or anything. When the weather has a slight chill to it, it starts playing up. Howver the BLUE temp sensor was brand new from the dealers, could it be that, or maybe the AFM?

At the risk of sounding boring, what's the condition of the spark plugs ?

I found that sometimes the ICV is just knackered. Try another if you can!
