My garage was horrified when I asked them to do this job yesterday. I thought it was a garage only job as the bearing needs a special tool to push it in place ? Or can it be done on the driveway ?
Thanks chaps !!

To do a proper job the bearing needs to be pressed in,some members have done their own and drifted the old ones out and the new ones in.
Trouble is,doing it this way you have to keep everything perfectly level and straight whilst you beat seven bells of sh*t out the bearings which IMO isn't a good idea.
I would suggest stripping it all down your self and just taking the hub and bearing to the garage for them to press the old one out and the new one in.

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

ive done it 2wice now.... and its is prob the worst job u can do on an e30...
the last one took me a whole day/.
getting the old one out is a b1tch and the inner race often gets stuck to the half shaft so u have to get that out somehow aswell...
u cant really take the hub of either like jesus says,,,, as the hubs dont just come off on e30s.... ull have to remove the whole trailing arm...
just garage it i think

This is the only job on both my E30's that I haven't done myself... nasty nasty. Get a garage to do it. But make sure they've got the proper press to do it, otherwise they could mess it up too!

u cant actually mess it up or spoil anything..... as the bearing is sooo meaty its pretty hard to actually damage it or push it in bent cos of the shear size of the thingGeeman wrote:This is the only job on both my E30's that I haven't done myself... nasty nasty. I supplied a bearing from BMW, and my local specialist done it for 70 notes. Which i thought was pretty good as his labour rate is only Ԛ£40 and hour!
