I just bought a replacement head gasket from ECP for my 318is. They were out of stock of the Reinz one listed on the website, and they suggested an alternative - Glaser part no. 50230. The packaging says it fits M40, M43 and M44. No mention of M42 though.

I'm sure it looks different to the one I removed (from memory) - the shapes of some of the holes look different.

Could anyone advise if the M42 gasket is indeed different to the others listed above? If so I'll be asking for my money back.

sounds suspect to me, I thought at least M40 was totally different to the M42, M44 was next gen of the M42.

No expert though.

Although i had the same worry finally i was wrong. When i replaced all the engine gaskets i used the goetze gasket set (i had to buy it from germany..anyway) I found that all three engines mentioned are using the same gasket set!!

These are the Euro Car Parts Nos. for head gaskets.

366110201 = m42

366110800 = m44

Personally I cant see one fitting the other.
