My 1987 325i sport had a bad idle problem, i solved this by disconnecting the idle valve, it has cured the problem but it means i have to give it a bit of revs first thing in the morning, i have notices lately that when i give the car a far bit of welly there is a distinct smell of fuel. This is worrying me, i have looked all around the car and can see no obvious leaks, if any 1 has any suggestions please let me know before i set myself on fire

cheers 8)

Check the piping going into the fuel rail in the engine bay. I used to get a smell of fuel on startup from cold, which went away when the engine warmed up. Turned out a small section of pipe connected to the fuel rail was leaking!
