I guess i'm facing the inevitable, but thought i'd just try posting this problem on here just in case anyone knows a fix.
Since leaving my car standing for a week (nice little break in sunny Spain!), i've had problems turning the key in the ignition. To start with, i could turn it far enough to release the steering lock, but not any further. Then i managed to wiggle it into the ignition position and start the car, but then i could stop the engine, but not return the key to the position to remove it. Again, a lot of wiggling (and a lot of cursing!) eventually cured it. I've tried spraying WD40, then white grease into the key hole and it's freed up a little, but still sticks at both positions.
I've had the whole of the steering column apart, but cant see any obvious way to get into the lock mechanism. So, do i need a new lock barrel? If so, can i order one with the same key as my doors, or will i have to change all the door/boot locks too? (Big pain!)
Cheers

Sounds like the lock is knackered, but before that..obvious question now, but is the key worn? Some original keys have seen a lot of wear by now!
I'm pretty sure the dealers can supply an ignition barrel for you using your key, but I would imagine it would be expensive!

I as far as I member dealers will supply locks and I dont think they are too bad price wise. Going by the TS parts CD they code your lock to the original key. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention - I did try the spare key, but that was exactly the same.Simon wrote:Sounds like the lock is knackered, but before that..obvious question now, but is the key worn? Some original keys have seen a lot of wear by now!

I'll phone the dealers in the morning to see what the damage is. My main worry is breaking the key off in the lock, leaving me with a car i cant use.

When I used to work for Vauxhall they used a company called K.L.C.K who made lock barrels up to key number (if you have it) I don't have their number, but a net search could find it.
They might be trade only, but I hope not for your sake.
I think they did other brands, but I'm not 100% on that either! Might have been vaux only??
Could be worth a go though as they are cheap.
