Whatsthe normal (or most common) temperature range for normal driving. My temp gauge seams to stay closer to the half way mark mostof the time (in traffic and long journeys). I have a 318i (M10) which strugles to make the quater mark on the temp gauge is this normal? The fan seams to have about the same resistance (when spun by hand) when the engine is hot or cold (a little less resistance when hot!). Is this temperature OK or is the viscous clutch seen better days!

All my e30's have sat in the middle of the temp guage.
It's probably a knackered thermostat that's stuck wide open rather than the fan, but I could be wrong.
Cheers,
