I have a feeling that they'll only fit the larger M30 units.... they're physically 'longer' than the M20's...

huh? it's not very heavy but extremely unaerodynamic. so should have good acceleration but pretty poor top speed and i think the figures back this up! the 0-60 isn't bad considering how big and comfortable and quiet the e28 feels when you drive it.

150 isn't that fast, an old vectra 2.5 will do it and i think karan's car will too!

The E28 weighs less than an E36 Compact!

I had a mint '87 E28 518i Lux. It was no drag racer, but it was REALLY nice to drive. I'd have one again just to use as a smoker... but no room to house it and bigger plans mean it's a no go. *sniff*

ha ha no i bet that was nice to drive. it's a bit sad but i've always sort of wanted an e28 524td, even since i got the m535i, they're supposed to be really good!! i like 6 cylinder diesels

I used to have a lovely M535i, it was mental think the 0-60 was about 7 secs. Which isnt bad for a box was lovely and comfortable to drive but not quiet the sun roof had the rust problem (common fault) and used to lift up at about 70 only sold it because i couldnt afford to run it (the way i wanted to drive it) was very gutted.

0-60 is a piss poor test of acceleration

the best test (imo) is 40 - 100 thru the gears

Here's my old M5 just before I sold it. Great car and only really got going at over 100mph (on the track obviously!) upto 100 the car did feel a bit sluggish but it is a big car. The thing is that when others, including the M535i were slowing down at 100+ the M5 just kept on pushing.

It was mint, I'd just rebuilt it. I got the best money you can get for an M5, pity it owed me 2.5 times as much!!! What a car though, I'll probably never own anything as nice again in my life!

E28 M5's are superb and yes they do feel faster than the E34's which feel very quick (as long as the viscous fan isnt on!).

Fantastic engine.

I hate that fan so much. I now how to shut it up. The radiator need cleaning out on the exterior. The dirst and muck from many years on them doesnt allow them to dissipate heat properly.

I had a e28 528i and it was a  car to drive, give me my centre arm rest back PLEASE!! Car ate miles up, soooo nice to drive long journeys and performance was plenty and the noise was just plain evil
Have to agree about aerodynamics tho, above 130 there is obvious wind noise and by 140 and above it sounds like a hurricane outside. You could see the rubber around the windscreen flexing!!! Still one of the most comfortable and relaxing cars I've ever driven, pity it only did 16 mpg  .
It was my introduction to owning and running a BMW and the joys of 6 cylinders!!

a hundred and forty!

no it won't! i got my 528i SE manual to read 137 once but that was some serious slipstreaming. an m535i will just do a genuine 140 with the close ratio box and the mtech kit which reduces drag
mine never went down to 16mpg, the m535 is noticeably worse. my 528i would do a genuine 35mpg on a run if you left the cruise at 65-70 mph. but the engine was in really good nick admittedly.

got to agree though, a superb car. it was my first bmw too, Ԛ£500 when i was 19 and still at uni. centre armrests  i still miss those in the m535i

Cant fit the electic fan because there is already a fan infront of the rad for the AC.

Sal... have a rear mounted electric fan and reverse the polarity so it sucks instead of blows then... easy.

Toby,

Actually had 143 ish shown on the clock when heading to eastern Germany, mind you the run up must have been about 50 miles! and I was chasing another e28 at the time, so maybe slipstreaming did help :D .
I was running a cossie K&N and the head had been played with a little by the last owner, pretty sure he said he ported it, but I never drove a std one to compare, still the most comfy car ever for me, maybe one day if I find a cheap one I'll have another, maybe.

And Big MRLEE, Andy335touring is currently playing with some TB's for his motor, although not quite the same as your plans, I'm sure he's having a adapter made up for his to fit something they weren'y made to fit.

Like Karan said. The TBs are designed to fit the "big 6" M30 block rather than the smaller M20 block. You'll be needing a mighty strange manifold to make them fit together.

 i guess it had some headwork. 143 is very very good! mine had a strong engine but was standard.

andy is copying an aluminium hartge adapter plate to fit m5 tbs to an m30b35.

after he puts his engine back together
