Just wondering would the e34 wipers fit the e30?

my dad used to have a 525i and when you stopped at a junction with single speed on, it'd automatiaclly drop down to intermittant.

I thought that was so cool-can i get the same effect in mine?!

what would i need?

Cheers!

I took the wiper motor out of the E34 525 I scrapped for my M50 c0nversion a couple of weeks ago, but haven't got around to seeing if it will fit an E30 yet. First impression was that it looks like it might, so watch this space.
Didn't know about the automatic intermittent mode. What age and spec E34 was this?

I had that on my old 535ise 88' but i'm guessing it involves a control box of some sort to get that feature ?

it was a 1989 G plate 525i with fairly basic spec (no cruise cont leather etc)

I'm guessing it must have a speed sensor built onto the diff as it didnt return to single speed if you revved the engine whilst stationary

Gotta be something similar to the OBC?

Something which reads the speed on the cluster and when it's 0, it drops the wipers to intermittant.

The wiper motor is a dumb unit. The 'General' module on the E34 controls the wiper relay magic and would probably be an absolute pain to splice into an E30.

On the E30 the K10 relay controls the motor. It has a grounded input for each wiper setting. Anything you might want to do would mean getting at the stabilized diff speed pulses from the back of the instrument cluster.

Given that K10 is probably 100% mechanical and the speed signal is only in the cab, I'd recommend a bodge board between the wiper switch and K10. A dual buffer, capacitor and 2 pole relay would do the trick.

...not that it would be an easy hack :(
