Hello all.

Just got this OBC kit and I think I'm missing some bit's.

1) The earth wire.
2) The temp sensor feed.

I've highlighted on the pic below what is what based on E30Adam's excellent retrofit thread but before I get this in tomorrow, I need to be sure I have everything. I've numbered everything so we're clear on what's being talked about. Hope this helps others too.

Many thanks in advance for helping...

Blue plug is to the push switch on the indicator stalk.
Earthing is from the instrument cluster on pin 1 of the yellow connector.
Temp sensor goes on another loom, which plugs into the bottom left of your pic.

1. Indicator stalk
2. instrument cluster.
3. Not used
4. gong
5. The white is for the outside temp sensor. Green goes to the relay box i think.
6. The green plug might not be for the relay box (see above)

as typed by Brian above, the temp sensor is connected to a long wire which in turn plugs into the white socket.

I'm quite frankly appalled that you're deviating your car from its as-supplied factory spec, Royalhatch...

So if I am reading this correct, I have to make up an earth wire from the yellow box?

Am I missing the temp sensor wire?

Which plugs go to the relay box?

Yes it is almost 3am but I was out at least...!

Mate, no offence but I'm trying to get this prob sorted so can you can at least extend me the courtesy of waiting until we sort this issue out before starting on another?

Can anyone confirm that kit is incomplete?

If so, can I just wire up the temp sensor to that single blue plug - even though the temp sensor has 2 connector on it?

And do I just run an makeshift earth wire from pin 1 of the yellow plug as well?
This should maybe help show things too...

So what you're missing is the separate loom that runs from under the glovebox through to the engine bay, then carries on to the passenger's foglight area, where there should be a temp sensor to go in the brake duct and another connection going to the OBC horn.

Here's a pic of a full loom minus the indicator stalk if that helps:

the temp sensor plugs into the white connecter that is adjacent to the green connector labelled 5 in your pic.

Earthing is established when you connect the yellow plug to the intrument cluster.

connector 3 was a feed contolled by the OBC TIMER function. On page 41, the handbook talks about an independent heater

Blue plug marked 1 in your picture is not the temp sensor it goes into the indicator stalk ,the temp sensor is marked 5 in your picture , yellow plug marked 2 in your pic has an earth included in it, so no need for extra earth (Mark u must have been writing same time...same info)

You guys rock!

So, the relay connector I got correct?

Only thing is the temp sensor - shall I buy the loom or can I just run some wire down to it?
The blue temp wire has one connector but the temp sensor itslef has 2 - is this cool?

Sorry to keep on guys but I just don't want to touch it again after it's done.

Right, I've fitted all the wiring, the stalk and will put the heater trim with OBC back in tomorrow. I'm replacing a cracked heater face so I have to undo all the f:-x:-xking bastard vent cables and bulbs - RAAAR!!.

Anyway, the seller of the kit said that the temp sensor loom is built int the main loom - is that true?

Why is there a sensor plug on OBC loom that is open then?

From Alyman's photo it shows that I am missing a bit of cable?

Tell me to stop if I'm boring you all to death.

Cheers all. I'll just fit it all and order the loom from Bleedin' W.

BTW, could I make me own loom?

What's the horn do with the OBC?

Thanks.

Loom would be easy to make. Just a matter of finding the right connector for the temp sensor and adding a couple of wires back to the glove box.
The OBC has its own horn (fits near the temp sensor) which is used solely for the CODE alarm function.

I also made my own loom to go down to the temp sensor, very rarely people remove this part of the loom when breaking E30's!

And as has been said, connector 3 is for the independant fuel burning heater for cars in very very cold climates.

Now I'm confused. The bit you've labelled 'to glovebox' - do both go into the glovebox or just the green onw? The white one goes into the loom that end in the horn and temp sensor right?

Yup, you're right, I was just trying to give an overall idea of where everything goes, thought it would be clearer if I showed the "engine bay" loom separate (which appears to be the bit you're missing)

- so for the wire that comes from the OBC unit with the two connectors on the end, one green and one white, the white one of these connects to the the engine bay loom that has the temp sensor/horn.

Ratch you don't have to remove any cables to replace the heater facia fella!
Prise off the black plastic cover in between the slider controls and there are 4 screws that hold the fascia to the heater controls.

See the pic below ou can see the screws there.

Sorry guys - almost there. 8O

So I wired this in, all except the temp sensor wire and the glovebox / accessory panel connector.

The strange thing is it works without the glovebox panel connector - I thought that was the power feed?
I now know that it won't remeber anything without that plugged in so the clock returns to ----UHR when the engine is switched off.

But here's the real problem - I went to plug that last green connector into the glovebox panel - and there's NO place for it. Brianmoooore said second down on the right but there's just lot's of single pin connectors - no 4-in-a-row female ones. 8O 8O

Car is a H Reg 1990 318iS.

Someone tell me it does fit.
