Hi all, iv found an engine box and ECU from a 535i, it has 160,000 miles on it, Will this conversion be straight foward? will i have to splice the loom to make it work?
How long does the conversion take?
is m30 worth it?

In Churtsey, Surrey...? That'll be the same one that I've got my eye on too. Toby sent me the link a while back...
Are you seriously going to take it? If you are, then I'll not bother bidding on it, but if you ain't serious, don't go putting the price up!
Cheers...
Giles.

2.5 is easier, but with the likes of e30.de where you can buy mounts and the advice to build it up is there, it's made relatively easy to do a 3.5 conversion.
2.5 gives you decent power, but if you wanna go one better, 3.5 has gotta be good, cheaper to do than 2.7 and more torque I would imagine!

m30 it!!!!!
the wiring side of it is very easy an djust requires switching around of a few wires at the c101 round connector near the fusebox, the engine side of the loom pretty miuch stands alone which makes the conversion pretty simple
it would be rude not to

Giles it's me you need to be telling not to bid against ya!
no, i need to try a new pump on mine first, it might be ok yet. i am tempted though!!
all the wires you need for instruments and engine to work (with possible exception of oil level warning but i don't know because my car hasn't got the check control system anyway!) are in the right place (1989 316i / 1989 535iA)

you need to watch e30.de a bit, not everything is absolutely gospel. it's effectively plug and play with the later m30, the only alteration i made to mine was to snip and tape up the engine plug wires i knew i wasn't going to use for stuff like SI. even those might have worked but i didn't have time to identify all of them and it wasn't worth the risk in case i blew the ecu or something...the wiring side of it is very easy an djust requires switching around of a few wires at the c101 round connector near the fusebox, the engine side of the loom pretty miuch stands alone which makes the conversion pretty simple
