Speedometer sticking

The speedometer in my car works fine upto about 75mph but once this speed is reached it will stick there until i back off to 40mph. A tap to the dash will revive it also. Any suggestions to what might be the problem? Replaced speedo sensor and its an '89 325i. Cheers

loose connection on the back of the instrument cluster.
