88 no cat Touring. I thought 86-87 only had the high compression.
This site: http://home.netpower.no/pberg/Mahle_m20.html shows through 89. Any markings etc to tell w/o disasembly?

It certainly looks like the high compression, Pretty sure there is no way of telling without stripping it.

all post '88 euro Cat ready models are the lower compression version of the m20

that site is superb for info but its not intended to be gospel, damn good guide though

easiest way to check is run the engine number with a dealer or BMW HQ, they can give you the definative answer you're looking for dude
