how easy is it to lift the fuse box back about two inches as i need to get a mastic gun in between the fuse box and the bulkhead, right in the corner of the engine bay to seal up a very small crack where a piece of the bulkhead rubber used to be[its perished] and waters coming thru this and down into the passenger footwell, also can i just use and sillicon based mastic

Should be able to lift it up a couple of inches OK. Take the cover off the top of the glovebox so that you can see where the wires come through. A couple of cable ties may need cutting.
There's a 5 (?) pin plug in the fusebox that pushes onto the bottom of the PCB. May be worth lifting the top of the fusebox (three self tappers) when you've finished to check this plug is on properly.
