Just got a new parcel shelf for a CoupÃ…a for some speaker mods and I have an original thrid brake light like the Aussies/US have to have to hand too. The parcel shelf has the cutout for it but I have no wiring for the light. It has a 4 pin connector (thin, 4 pins in a row) and I guess that goes somewhere.
My guess is it can't go all the way to the main loom/control unit under the glove box. A bodge would be to give it a feed off the rear brake lights and wire them to the bulb directly - is that likely to blow any shit up? Anyone know the correct way to use all 4 pins?

could it be that it takes two seperate feeds for power? what u could do is get hold of a relay and use the feed from ur brake lights to switch the relay to power ur 3rd light so as not to put much load on brakelight circuit. it makes perfect sense in my head but im not sure if ive typed it the way i thought it!

I kind of see what you're saying but sounds like a lot of work no?
What I've found recently that is increasingly annoying is that when you buy stuff from BMW, most of the time you don't get the associated nuts and bolts which is a kind of shit.
I got Tie Rods, Engine Mounts and some other stuff and they came with NOTHING. Even ECP give you what you need to get the thing done.
Need that cable...

Pin 1 on your light goes to the green/red brake light wire before the lamp check module (LH side of boot) if you have one.
Pin 2 is earth (brown).
Pins 3 and 4 are both green/black and go to the lamp check module as part of the bulb failure monitor circuit.
Re parts from BMW: If you want the nuts, etc. then order them! They have their own part numbers.

I have learnt that now.
But it is kind of silly to sell a part and then order 5 nuts, 3 bolts and 4 washers giving them a billion part numbers when they should have a system that collates that stuff for the relevant part if needed.
Much thanks for the help tho.

Hi, did you ever get the 3rd brake light operational, I'm about to do the same on my E30. Very grateful for any useful feedback etc.
