ok with all this talk of hid's ansd angel eyes side lights etc i am a little confusd so i am hoping someone can tell me if i have it all straight.
1)the roadside light of each cluster has two elements - one small bulb at the top which comes on with first position of lights and also stays on f you park up leaving your lights on.
2)the inner lights of each cluster are simply the main beams.
3)the low beams/dipped are the other bulb in the roadside light.
-So what are side lights? all i have is side repeaters
-Also Hid/xenon just replace the low beam - do we loose the little small bulb when doing the conversion or can it be retained somehow?
-Angel eye elements can be installed into all 4 lights - again do you loose the little light?
-is it possible to have hid's and angel eyes?

No, you dont loose the small bulb if fitting HID.
The light rings replace the little bulb.
Yes you can have HID bulbs and angel eyes.

And "side lights" in the UK is just an outdated/inaccurate name for "parking lights".
There are, however, provision for "sidelights" on E30s. If you remove the covers on the bumpers, you will see the sockets where they fit in.

The 'side lights' (little bulb at the top of outer lights).Martinaston wrote:So whats on when the light switch is at position 1
If youve read the HID thread, on some cars when the switch is at P1 with the ignition off, just the little bulb is on, but with the ignition on the dip beam lights also come on at half power.

Thanks for quoting it back to me
I was wondering what liam012 was getting at
"1)the roadside light of each cluster has two elements - one small bulb at the top which comes on with first position of lights and also stays on f you park up leaving your lights on.
2)the inner lights of each cluster are simply the main beams.
3)the low beams/dipped are the other bulb in the roadside light. "
I assume number 2 means Hi beam

Probably misunderstood what you were asking and wasnt sure if you had seen the other thread.
The basic way I look at it...
P1 - 'side lights'
P2 - 'dip beam'

I call the 2 inner lights 'main beam' but some people say 'hi beam'.Martinaston wrote: I assume number 2 means Hi beam
