My '89 320i has been a nightmare to start ever since I got it, and it's starting (pardon the pun) to annoy me.
Whenever it's stone cold it can take up to 10 attempts with throttle at varying positions. When it does eventually decide to catch it emits a rather large plume of smoke (obviously flooded).
This is the odd bit; I ran out of petrol the other day and had to leave it overnight. In the morning I put some fuel in the tank and f**k me if it didn't start first time. Next day it's back to its' usual, so I let it run out of petrol again and next morning it started almost instantaneously!
Could I have leaky fuel injectors???
A b*tch to start from cold...
