when i changed my engine my horn stopped working, i have decided it would be easier to wire in a new wire from the steering colum to the horn rather then trying to locate a loose connection as the wire is pretty welll hidden. only problem is there is a few wires coming from the steering colum... has anybody got any idea what wire is for the horn????????

thanks

Doubt if there's any "loose connection" along the wire, as the only join is at the plug and socket half way up the steering column. BMWs don't need this kind of bodging - they're German, not French!
First establish what's wrong with the horn.
Does relay K2 click when you push the horn button? Pull out relay K2 and short pins 30 and 87 of its base with a short piece of wire, then post again.

My horn was a bit tempromental, but when I had the steering rack replaced my mechanic spotted that there was a loose earth wire, tightened it up and all is now fine.

There are no earth wires to be loose, not without affecting other things at least.
Part of the sophistication of BMW electrics is that they have very few seperate earth points - LH front inner wing, RH turret, above glove box and rear seat - that's about it.
Loose earth is the sort of thing mechanics tell customers to avoid getting drawn into detailed explanations!
