Whilst trying to renew the HT leads in the 325i, ive pulled a wire out that looks as if it was on a spade connector that plugged in to the oil filter housing, or very near there. The fixed end of the wire runs to one of the 2 plastic plugs under the diag socket. The other plug being the "pulse" lead from the Ht leads. Haven't really had a chance to look at were its come off yet, but before i get on my back tomorrow with a torch, can someone tell me? The car starts and runs fine with this disconnected, i have a feeling it may be for the low oil warning on the check control but thats a wild guess.

Anybody??????

the low oil light sender unit is down there, does your oil light come on on the overhead check panel? if so you already solved it. failing that does your oil pressure light on the dash go off once the engine has started?

This is the oil pressure switch wire - the level sender is the other side, under the alternator.
With it disconnected, there won't be any problem with the pressure light going off after the engine is started - it won't light in the first place!

Ah Ok, thanks Brian. Still haven't had a chance to crawl undeneath but probably will do tomorrow. Is it easily located then once you're under there, or is it a total barstool to reattach???

Easy to get at, but it shouldn't be possible to just pull it off in the first place. Should be the type of connector like on the other sensors where you push a wire clip to release it.
If yours has a spade connector, someone has changed the oil pressure switch for a non BMW one.
