6025481323452 does this sound liuke an engine no??? got it off the block where it joins the gearbox on my m3??????

think mine was 8 digits(318is). inlet side of the block where it meets the sump.

chassis plate has 23 4s 2 on it and the block has 60254813 and the previos number. which one is the engine no???

BMW engine numbers usually start with the engine capacity written in some form.

so would the 23 4s 2 be the engine no to my m3????

23 = 2300cc
4 = 4 cylinders
S = 4 valve per cylinder.
23 4S 2 is the engine code, and the long number is its serial number.
