hi all
i was just wondering if the mk1 sport engine has a higer compresion ratio and most say feels quicker.then surely it produces slighlty more power then the newer engine?
also can the older engine be fitted to the newer plastic bumper models?
mk1 sport engine v mk2 sport engine

Older engine has higher compression, I think its 9.7:1 whereas the later engine is 8.8:1
The greater power is felt on the road and is shown on the dyno aswell.
We have had two dyno days at Bexleys and everytime the early cars have given a minimum of 170 bhp.
JonB in early 325i sport withh 200k!!= 170 bhp
Andy P with early engine = 175 bhp
Ant with Early sport = 173 bhp and then 177 bhp
MoleE30 early sport = 174 bhp.
Even the modded later cars never made 170 bhp. That includes chips, exhausts and filters.
Hope this helps with whatever your thinking.

Remember your driving style is somewhat extreme, not everyone pushes their car to the absolute limits like yourself.Karan wrote:no mate i waste them!!! theres still nearly 50hp difference remember..M5pilot wrote:I bet some of them arent far behind yours Karan.

Your car has 220bhp? So you finally had a dyno done!

all the M20s are interchangable dude, the early engine will fit the later car with a loom swop and the waterpump changed, dont forget to do the cambelt whilst its out and fit the later front lower timing cover and pulley, you'll need these to run the front miounted crank trigger.
