Some people say yes, some people say no, if you can try and fit it back on, but if not it wont do any harm but if the car starts running rough you'll need to fit it back on. Shoul dbe able to take the rubber boot off the end of the lead and slip it on.

I have a set of Magnecor leads that don't have this pick-up, I've been running it like this for a year with zero side effects.
Apparently it's only connected to the diagnostic socket and not the Motronic so has no effect on the engine management.
Cheers,
Iain T

As far as I can tell, it depends on the Motronic version fitted.
On some, the sensor (effectively a cam position sensor) is only connected to the diagnostic socket, but on others it feeds the ECU as well.
The missing signal will not stop the car running, but will have a small effect on power and economy.
Your E30 left the factory fitted with "performance" ignition leads, which, unless they have been physically damaged, are still as good as they were then. Nothing whatever to be gained by "uprating" them.

the inductive pickup which i think you guys are reffering to makes it so the motronic doesn't fire the injectors all at the same time which is better for efficiency but it should run fine without this.
