Well, I finally began my engine rebuild last night by putting the crank back in the block.

Obviously I wasn't paying attention when I took it apart as I was a bit worried when there weren't any dowels to locate the main beaing caps.

Now they're located laterally in the block by an interferance fit, but is that all there's supposed to be?

Cheers!

Alex.

Thats right mate there are no dowels for the main bearing caps, only for the big end caps.

Make sure you use new big end cap bolts as they are one shot stretch bolts.

Bugger.

The one thing I didn't buy is big end bolts :(

Oh well, guess there's nothing to stop me assembling them into the block hand tight with the old ones and then fitting new ones when I get them.

Oh well, better to find out now than when a rod pokes it's cheery face through the block.

They're not expensive from the dealer, I think they are about 80p each.

Better safe than sorry as you say :D
