Hi all,

I have a small wisp of blue smoke from the exhaust on start up, which disappears. the car does not use much oil <1 litre in 6000 miles.

I have often noticed that there has been oil on the air filter and quite a bit in the AFM to throttle body pipe. i am guessing this is where the oil is coming from to make the wisp of blue.

So i suppose my question is how much oil should end up been burnt via the crank case breather? and do i have a blockage?

i would guess worn valve stem oil seals. pretty common on older bmw engines and not a big deal really, it won't get worse quickly and doesn't really affect the running of the engine...
