Some baseball capped chav scrote broke into my h reg 318 2 door via the rear window in the process knackering the chrome surround at the bottom and ramming a screwdriver into the passenger lock.
Is it possible to get a replacement door lock from bmw that matches the rest of the locks and uses the same key or is it easier to buy a secondhand complete lock set.
How easy are they to fit?
Thanks
Nick

Hi Chap,
some similarly attired stunt nackered my lock 2 weeks ago!
I bought a lock barrel repair kit part number 51 21 9 556 313 for Ԛ£16 something inc. of VAT.
You have to swap the old pins in the lock into the new one, which is easier than it sounds. just make good note of where they were.
Make sure that you orientate the new barrel into its housing the correct way round. ie north (with the small tab and hinge to the right (east)) slots into the barrel housing with the oblonge hole point down (south). On the northern rim of the housing you will see a recess in the housing, this is where the tab fits. On the southern edge there is just a slot for the tab and the barrel does not turn in it's housing. This wasted quite a bit of my time as i assumed the pins where to blame.
I would suggest you set a side about 1 1/2 hours to do the job.
other info. a new lock with a new differnet key is Ԛ£22 ish and a key coded lock is Ԛ£42 ish.
You will need some long nose piliers to pull off the lock backing clip inside the door. I also used a hair drier to soft the glue on the water proof membrane to avoid ripping it.
good luck
do you fancy moding the door heating lock to fry the invaders? only joking...but it would be nice.

My lock has broken, the part which the pin goes through snapped, the remains dropped inside the door and the cylinder thing which the key goes in came out with the key...
Has anyone else heard of this??
Ive got most of the broken parts back but the haynes manual was of little use in helping sort this out.. so what should i try next?
Im happy to get the tools out and get stuck in but, ive never done a lock before. Help!

I just swapped a lock barrel over on a mates car. I found it easiest to remove the window mechanisms (it could be possible to do this without). There's two things holding the barrel in. The clip, which can be slid off towards the car (when door is open) using a long screwdrive poked through a whole, and the switch housing for the central locking. This has to be aligned to the clip for the wire is facing down. Kinda hard to explain but take a good look before removing everything and it will make sense.
If you don't draw blood it won't work. Fact.

anywhere that i could get some pics of removing the lock mechanism?
Ive got the door apart and the protective film off the inside, but Im not sure what Im meant to be trying to get the plyers to. Just ordered a Bentley service manual - will this show me more?
