Nope the Engine loom will unplug and just sit on top of the engine. The crank sensor on the later M20 engines has the wire go behind the water pump pully and is plugged under the inlet manifold iirc

If its the motronic 1.1 system with just one sensor for engine speed/ position, its held on to the block on the drivers side at the front beside the flywheel by an allen key.It might be covered in gunk.and hard to see.
If it ain't broke..
Fix it till it is :)

pre and post both plug in same place but the actual sensors are in different locations

pre facelift is on bell housing n/s(clip in sensor on n/s of crank pulley)
post is on crankshaft pulley on o/s

hope this clears up confusion

Unplugs at the big C101 plug and socket on the bulkhead just inboard of the fuse box; at the ECU above the driver's right knee (loom and socket goes back through a large grommet in the bulkhead by the front battery tray); and an earth wire and a 12V live at the battery earth and live respectively.
There is also the big black wire from the battery live to the starter motor, the three relays which can be unclipped from their mounting bracket and a lambda sensor socket clipped under the front battery tray.
