ive got a 325i and it will be running fine 4 weeks then out the blue i loose all power and it will tick over really lumpy and when i puch the throtle nothing happens then will will rev up 2 6 grand then drop again?
2day it has done it 4 times 2 me. each time lasting 5 min or so. if i leave my foot on the throtle the revs will rise every few seconds the drop straight back down?
Any ideas?
hope this has made some sort of sence lol

check the crank sensor dude, they have a habit of chafing their insulation off on the waterpump pulley and can cause all you've desribed.

next stop, blue thermo sensor( just cahnge it , cheap enough dude ) then you're onto tracing any air leaks.

TBH though, sounds electrical to me from your description.
