ive got a 325i , and its got a massive problem. :(
wat it does is.
it runs fine , no over heating or missfireing. but its cut out on me 4 times in the last 2 days ive not had it long but i only did small trips b4 . so this has showed up from me doing some long trips.
when it cuts out it loses the spark and the revs drop on the clock to 0 in a flash even thou its still turning as iam rolling in gear. 8O
cant bump it or jump it. for about an hour or 2, then it starts and if fine , but it did it twice last night, i was stuck on the m25 and then a23 on the way home.
ive changed the plugs, rotor, dizzy cap. and ive checked all the connectors i can see and some i cant see, and spray contack cleaner on them. i even changed the ecu. :?
i need to go to germany on thursday to the nurburgring and iam desperate for anyone who knows if any relays can affect the car and should be changed or if theres any common faults that these cars have . please help iam desperate

This might sound stupid but try disconnecting the immobiliser if you have one?

Mine decided to kick in randomly after 5 or 6 years of not working and obviously couldn't start the car due to it.

Just a suggestion...

I had that in my 316i but not stopping for an hr+ I think it was an ecu relay somewhere.

Fault could be anywhere in the engine electrics circuitry, but, yes, there are a couple of very relevent relays involved. They live under a cover on the top of the left inner wing, beside the airmeter bracket.
The one with several red and red/another colour wires going to it is the main DME relay. The other one is the fuel pump relay.
When the fault occurs, see if there is 12V+ on the + terminal of the ignition coil, (lack of implies a fault with the ignition switch and wiring), and also see if there is 12V+ on the red/white wires coming from this relay. (lack of implies a faulty DME relay) Try not to disturb anything when you check the red/white, as you might temporarily repair the fault and think that it's OK when t's not.

Correct place for an ignition immobilizer to be connected on an E30 is to a two pin socket with two green wires above the glovebox. This is fitted, on cars without an alarm, with a plug with a short loop of green wire.

I had something similar with my old 325i when I got it. It'd start and run fine then occassionaly if I gave it a bit of welly it'd just die and I'd have to pull over and restart it.
Turned out to be the DME relay (the little white one in the set of 3 just behind the AFM), changed that and haven't had a problem since

good place to start, my old touring used to just die at 70 mph for no reason - you would roll to the hard shoulder, switch the ignition off and on and she would start again. That was also the ecu relay in the box of 3 relays mounted on te nearside suspension turret
