Right anyone fancy a shot at diagnosing my groaning problem?

It only happens after I have been driving for 20 mins - 30 mins and only ever when pulling away or coming to a stand still (about 5mph). Also it only does it now and then.

The groan is quite resonant and I'm sure I can feel a little sensation through the steering when it happens (although I could be imagining it??). I've checked the fluid level and that's fine and it doesn't make a noise on full lock either.

The only other thing that has been playing on my mind is that the handbrake is rubbish and I'm sure the rear wheel binds every so often (notice it on gravel surfaces) is it possible one of the rear shoes is binding and causing more problems when it heats up? It's a 325 touring by the way.

Could be the rear shoes binding and chattering on the inside of the disc. Best to get the rear wheels off and take a look. Handbrake shoes are relatively cheap as are the securing springs and adjusters if required.

Even if this doesn't cure the noise, there is obviously a problem with the rear brakes anyway so it's one thing ruled out.

Any help?

Don't know about that. Parking brake effectiveness is checked on the MOT I'm sure.

Anyone know for sure :?:

Sorry I ment if I pull my finger out and replace the rear shoes the handbrake will work in time for the MOT :) Yep it is checked 7 clicks to fully lock up is the max I think??

As far as I know the 'number of clicks' the lever travels is irrelavant for the M.O.T., I think that's an old myth!
As long as it works ok and fairly equal in performance side to side it's ok.
