Misses got in the car today, turned the key, fired up no problem.
Used it on and off all day, fine.
I go to get in it earlier, turned ignition on,not cranking
Turned on and off a couple of times, still didnt crank...
lifted bonnet and had a poke around the starter leads,C101 wiring etc,but everything seems ok.
Set the alarm then deactivated it to make sure it wasnt that.
Got in turned ignition on,tried cranking and nothing but.......when releasing the key it cranked???
So tried it again turning the key slowly and it worked, only at a certain point in cranking position though?
Hope this makes sense?

Any ideas which part is worn?
Ignition assembly or plug on the back?

yup that sounds like it- the little clips that hold the swith on do snap, meaning it fails to engage properly.

new one off any e30 should do the job
