Do you know what the alternater puts out? Probably the same as a 325i one anyway.
Just get the biggest you can fit

That won't happen.
I've had 3 batteries running before.

Yeah, I had a massive sony amp that should have cost Ԛ£3000 when I had my E46. the thing was about 40" wide 30" long but only 4" tall, big silver thing, it needed some juice.

Always better to have a bigger capacity battery than one too small, you will be safe that way

You need an E30 battery. It needs to be the right physical size, with the correct clamping arrangements, the right shaped terminals and terminals in the right place.
I buy the biggest one that will fit, which I suspect is for an E30 diesel, since I often use the car radio for entertainment at work and leave the boot open for hours at a time.

how does the cosworth alternator output compare with the e30's are they about the same ? what are the relevant figures to compare when buying a battery? i think theres usually two figures on a battery,i think ones the cold cranking amps?
whats the rating of the 325 e30 battery?

Just buy the biggest one that fits the battery tray, with the correct terminals, in the correct place, and the right way around.
A small independant tyre and battery place is your best bet, as well as probably being cheapest, the boss will probably take one look at the battery tray and come up with the right one.

Its a shame your so far away mate as i have a brand new heavy duty brute of a battery that i removed from one of my E34 donor cars. They fit perfectly in the touring battery tray (just) and will be plenty man enough for your YB engine and anything else you want to wire into the car!fuzzy wrote:how does the cosworth alternator output compare with the e30's are they about the same ? what are the relevant figures to compare when buying a battery? i think theres usually two figures on a battery,i think ones the cold cranking amps?whats the rating of the 325 e30 battery?

And make sure it can be bolted down!
A car overturned right at the end of our lane four weeks ago, and demolished a telephone pole. No serious injuries, but the next day it was found that the battery had been flung out of the car, right over the roof of a building, and straight through the roof of a touring caravan. I pass the caravan every day - nice clean battery sized hole in the front curved bit of the roof, with clear plastic taped over it.
