i need to replace the front cross member, can anyone tell me if one from a 316/318 will fit OK? my car is a 1986 320 6 cyl and the one i can get is from either a 316 or 318 1990 4 cyl.

got a cross member today, from a 316 with anti roll bar and new wishbones in place.
does anyone know if both 316 and 320 use the same anti roll bar? as the coating on it is still like new and my roll bar look's a bit old (ish) as it's not got the plastic coating
PS, ive not had both roll bar's together yet, so i'm unsure if they are the same diameter?

The larger diameter bar would be my choice. The m-tec suspension on my 320i is fitted with a 20mm one.I dont think the finish on the bar has any bearing on its performance. Its worth fitting new bushings while your at it.
If it ain't broke..
Fix it till it is

all fitted, the cross member i took of was far worse than i first though/saw .. very well rotted once i saw it off i thought i'd been very lucky that it didn't fall off when i was using it
i'll take a pic and show ya'll.
Both roll bar's are the same diameter so i fitted the cleanest one
what a difference to drive, no knocking and better steering feeling
now all ive to do for it's mot are bleed the brake's (fluid change).. & steering gaiters (should really have bought them and fitted them today!!
DooH!!) and that should be that??
couple of job's to do to my E39 Beasty though so above job's will have to wait a couple of week's
