you might beable to gain a little slack if you losen the water pump and the tensor might push over a little more.
just a guess you might want to try.

Trouble with a longer belt is it might throw your valve timing off a touth or two ???

i think i can afford 1 tooth off as m/s will compensate for it... but you would have thought that 3mm is nothing and shouldnt affect the belts length as thats what the tensioner is there for, surely the tensioner slackens more than 3mm??????

is it definatly for your size engine?
im thinking if u got a 2.5 engine with a 2.0 belt that the 2.5 block is taller therfore needs a longer belt and u might have a 2.0 litre belt?

i just found ot there are two types of belts for the m20 one has 128 teeth and the other is 129 teeth so if you don't have 129 teeth then get that belt. other wise i would think that the belt would be to tight if it won't go on with the tensor. Maybe a call to bmp design is in order as they sell a thicker gasket that they use on many FI m20.

Just an observation
If youv'e raised the head by 3mm wouldn't the belt need to be 6mm longer ?

i see where your coming from but dont forget the tensioner takes up some slack! i would have thought it takes at least 6mm slack anyway?

Quite right matey, you may need a vernier pulley to correct the cam timing too12345kevin wrote:Just an observationIf youv'e raised the head by 3mm wouldn't the belt need to be 6mm longer ?

Cheers for all the comments guys.... ive finally got the belt to go on (half a tooth advanced), but hey, i need the car up and running, and will consider a vernier pulley soon, but for now i'll let my m/s sort it out

The belt length could be 2000 teeth in length but as long as the crank and cam pulleys are the correct size it'd stay in time.tonyppe wrote:blingsta wrote:Hey guys!, having got myself a 3mm decompression plate to lower my c/r, ive been trying to put car back together, but my timing belt wont fit???? ive undone the tensioner all the way, but still no go... any advice please?
