Ive had to strip down the inlet side of my 318is as the fuel rail pipes were leaking (cold weather did it ?)
ive since found that all of the breather hoses are split to some extent so im having to replace them all (seems to be 10 or so hoses ?) Theres an awful lot of pipework under there for some reason,
i need to get it on the road as soon as possible and cant really wait for the parts, so i was proposing on bypassing all of the water plumbing (im having to replace that too)

basically joining points 20 and 12, i was wondering what that heater plate is for in the throttle body - i thought the general idea was to get colder denser air into the engine ?
so is it ok to bypass this ?

Yeah, I did exactly this on my track car.

Took the sandwhich plate out completely, but had to re-route the air pipe that was in there though up into the blanking plug on the air intake bellows... it's not that hard...

You must make sure that all the air pipes have no splits in them, otherwise the car won't run well... very important!

To be honest, I would have thought it would make no noticeable difference. I haven't had the car out since I did it, but it idled okay and revved freely, so no problem there.

Then again, it's only used on the track, so no cold starts or anything...!

Yeah, join 19 ( the one on part 25 ) to 12 using hose 11... You'll have to trim hose 11 to fit straight to 25...

Or you could even use hose 16 to fit straight between 12 and 25...

Either way, you'll need to do a bit of hose trimming...

You need to keep parts 17 and 25 anyway, as they're used for the air pipes... so you'll keep part 26 in the loop.

water hoses look a little iffy to reuse, just a thought, but do i really need a loop in there ? - im wondering if i can just blank each hole off (that is 20 and 12) - other than that ive no clue what to do!

Erm, I wouldn't block them off... just in case they're needed for the flow of water. If you can find out where the flow goes from 12 into the cylinder head, than that's fine, but I'd be cautious... the iS head is very fragile...

well its all back together - i did a bit of a macguyver on the pipework - but theres a lot less joins now - the breather hose arrangement is a lot less complicated for instance (eg part 17 and 25 arent on the car at all!)

heres my hose i made up

car seems to be running a lot better now i got rid of all the old split hoses
